New Year, New Business Resolution: Here are 5 Resolutions for Business Owners in 2020

jumping from 2019 to 2020

Making a New Year’s resolution for your business can impact its success significantly. Here are 5 New Year’s resolutions for business owners to consider for 2020:

  • Delegate: You’re a business owner. You already know you are capable of doing what needs to get done. Assigning work to someone else can be challenging, but it could really help your business succeed. What are the things you don’t like to do? Are you overwhelmed? Do you need a vacation? If you answered yes to these questions, you can delegate the extraneous work to someone else. If you are feeling overwhelmed, it can take a toll on both you and your business. Take time off and delegate. It will be beneficial to you and to your business.

  • Prioritize: To be the best business owner you can be, you need to take care of yourself first. While you’re working long hours, remember to eat, drink water, exercise and spend time with friends and family. After you’ve taken care of yourself, prioritize your workload. Start with the most reasonable and most important thing to get done for the day and mark it off your check list once completed. Avoid burnout by prioritizing.

  • Learn Something New: Once you’ve learned to delegate, you can find time to learn something new. This new skill can be related or unrelated to your business. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to golf or learn a new language. Adopting a new skill will also allow you to meet new people and network. What new skill do you want to learn?

  • Give Back: Find a cause that matters most to you and give back. Be a mentor, volunteer, or donate. There are many organizations that make a difference in your community.

  • Become a Better Communicator: Avoid frequent misunderstandings with employees and clients by learning how to become a better communicator. Start with speaking clear and concisely, or by asking employees questions after meetings to be sure they understand the task. This resolution will not only improve your employee and client relationships, but it will also boost employee morale.

You may have your personal resolutions set in stone, but what about your business? Business resolutions are just as important as personal ones. If you’re ready to do something different to bring positive change to your business, start with these simple resolutions.

Here’s to the new year!
