FAQs
Can you tell me more about Lakeland Bank?
With over 60 branches, mostly in northern and central New Jersey, Lakeland has been part of the local banking landscape for over 50 years. Like Provident, Lakeland is highly regarded for both quality of service and banking expertise, as attested by recent awards from both Forbes and American Banker. Above all, Lakeland shares our commitment to families and local communities, supporting the businesses and nonprofit organizations that help our region thrive. Together, we will be an even stronger and more capable community bank.
Will my current accounts at Provident change in any way?
No, we don’t anticipate any immediate changes to your accounts as a result of this merger. Of course, we’re always looking for new ways to make enhancements to our services, and a fresh infusion of banking talent and expertise from Lakeland will benefit you on many levels in the long run. In the meantime, you can continue to bank as usual.
When will the two banks fully unite?
Although Lakeland is now officially part of the Provident family, our two banks will continue to operate separately for a few months as we plan a smooth transition in service for Lakeland customers.
When can I start banking at Lakeland branches?
Your access to Lakeland locations will occur in two phases:
- Effective immediately, you can withdraw cash from your Provident accounts at any Lakeland ATM with no Provident Bank or Lakeland Bank surcharges.
- When we complete the transition, and Lakeland branches change to Provident systems, you can begin banking at any of the 140 branches in the Provident network.
- In the meantime, please continue to bank at your current Provident branches.
Will any branches close as a result of this merger?
While our Provident and Lakeland branch networks are largely complementary, there are twenty-two locations where overlap exists due to their close proximity to another branch. A careful and thorough review of our combined branch network was undertaken, and we have decided to close either a Provident branch or a Lakeland branch in cases where a single location can serve all of our customers. Consolidations will begin Thursday, August 29, 2024. Affected customers have been notified well in advance and offered multiple channels and resources to support their transition. As of Tuesday, September 3, 2024, our customers may also bank at any of Provident’s 140 branches across our newly expanded network, or through our ProvidentConnect Online Banking and Mobile Banking platforms. We will continue our commitment to deliver exceptional customer experience through our team of dedicated employees.

I have deposit accounts at both banks. Is there anything I should know?
If you are a customer of both Provident and Lakeland, your accounts will be insured separately through the FDIC until six months after the legal acquisition. For Certificates of Deposit (CDs), FDIC insurance will continue until the maturity date, even if the maturity date comes after the six-month grace period. For CDs that mature during the six-month grace period, if you roll over your CD for the same term and matured CD amount, it will be insured separately until the new maturity date. Nonetheless, you should plan to speak with us if you have accounts at both banks with a combined balance of more than $250,000. We may be able to link your accounts to help satisfy any minimum balance requirements and review the ownership category and titling of your accounts to ensure that you continue to qualify for the maximum FDIC coverage allowed by law.
